The customer's sewer line has been backing up every year for a few years. They were using someone else who was snaking the line to get it unplugged. After a referral they gave us a call. The snake was putting a hole in the roots and the swelled cast iron pipe past the trap, however it was not completely cleaning the pipe or taking the cast back to the original diameter. We also found the cast iron trap had rotted out causing additional issues.
The proper fix was to cut up the floor, remove and replace the old trap, and use a jetter (high pressure water) and a picote machine (mechanical robotic cutter) to clean the cast to original diameter by removing scale and roots. The floor was then re-concreted shut. This sewer line will not have any issues for a very long time.
